Family Background

Sujatha has two elder brothers and a younger sister. Her father was an auto driver but unfortunately, expired two years ago. After her father’s death, it was just a miserable situation, as Sujatha had to drop out from school and the family became homeless. They stayed on the railway platform for a while, after which her mother became a manual laborer. When her mother used to go to work, Sujatha and her siblings also resorted to begging and all of them stayed on the platform. The children were left unattended to on the railway platform, which was an absolutely unsafe environment for the children.

Need Base India, which is a non-profit organization started in Dec 2009, came to Sujatha’s rescue. Need Base India is a foundation for Child Care and Development, with the intention to work towards addressing the basic and fundamental rights of child care, protection, health and education for children living on streets, runaway children, orphans, children out of school or children under challenging situations.

Need Base India, who has a team of social mobilizers, identified this family and spoke to the mother urging her to send their children to their home, primarily a government school that doubles up as a children’s home after school hours with due permissions from the Education department and other authorities.

About the child:-

Sujatha is very interested in studying but due to lack of resources she had to drop out of school. She is very active in all of the school’s activities and does all the work that is assigned to her. She can understand English well and is now working on her writing skills.

By helping support overall Sujatha’s well-being, you will be supporting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals 1 - 5.

Considering the School home not only houses the children, but takes care of their overall development and wellbeing, by having in-house caretakers and teachers to ensure they are properly looked after & guided after school hours to address their weaknesses, all this needs a considerable amount of financial inputs. Need Base India’s team provides transparency and shares the complete cost details with us, and our conclusion is that the homes are managed very well while keeping a strict vigil on the cost. This includes education, boarding, hygienic home, bridge development, medical attention, and last but not the least to take care of the children’s security.

The total spend per child is categorized basis the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 1 to 5 and presented to the child sponsor on a periodic basis.

Social Impact

The aim of FreeBasics when sponsoring a child are: - to ensure continued education, - clean residential environment - hygienic and nutritious food for a healthy growth, - timely medical attention with periodic preventive check-ups, - security of the child especially that of a girl child, - to ensure overall personality development of the child
