Support Nethra's dream - make an impact today!

You can help eradicate poverty in Nethra's life by showing your support today.

Despite all her problems, Nethra, a 9 year old girl, has such a charming smile!!

She has an elder sister and one younger brother. Both the parents work as manual labourers, carrying luggage for passengers at railway stations. Her parents migrate to different stations in search of any menial work. Currently her parents have moved to Mangalore.  As they often move from one place to another, it was difficult to take their children. They had left the girls with their Aunty and grandmother, staying in their village and took their youngest son with them to Mangalore.

The elder daughter stayed with her grandmother and the child Nethra was left with her aunty in the same village.  Her aunty found it difficult to take care of Nethra, as she also goes to work and there is no other adult staying at home to take care of the child.

An NGO, namely Need Base India, who have a team of social mobilizers identified this girl and spoke to the aunty urging her to send Nethra to their home, primarily a government school that doubles up as a children’s home after school hours, with due permissions from the Education department and other authorities.

The Need Base India staff found that the child is in need of care and protection. The child is under the care of Need Base India and she has been admitted in the 4th std.

Nethra is interested in studies but needs to catch up with the rest of her classmates.  She actively takes part in all the home activities and does the work allotted to her. She loves to dance and put on a show for everyone in the home.

Need Base India (A foundation for Child Care and Development) is a non-profit organization started in Dec 2009, with the intention to work towards addressing the basic and fundamental rights of child care, protection, health and education for children living on streets, runaway children, orphans, children out of school or children under challenging situations.

By helping support Nethra's overall well-being, you will be supporting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals 1 - 5.

Here is a breakdown of how the funds collected, will be utilized for the child:

Considering the school home not only houses the children, but takes care of their overall development and well-being, by having in-house caretakers and teachers to ensure they are properly looked after and guided after school hours to address their weaknesses, all this needs a considerable amount of financial inputs. Need Base India’s team provides transparency and shares the complete cost details with us, and the homes are managed very well while keeping a strict vigil on the cost. The aim of FreeBasics when sponsoring a child are: - to ensure continued education, - clean residential environment - hygienic and nutritious food for a healthy growth, - timely medical attention with periodic preventive check ups, - security of the child especially that of a girl child, - and finally to ensure overall personality development of the child.
